Overview
We've launched new Studio Banner blocks to make it easier to build, manage, and schedule promotional content from one place. You can reuse the same banner across multiple layouts, update it centrally, and have it turn on or off automatically based on time windows. This speeds up updates, maintains consistent branding, and minimizes manual work.
What’s new:
- Schedule start and/or end times, not just temporary swaps.
- Treat the banner as a single unit (image, URL, alt text) so that everything updates together.
- Add and manage stacked/rotating banners within a single block.
- Build as many banners as you need, all within the Block Library, without requiring custom work.
Recommended Setup: Global Banners in the Block Library
Manage banners centrally so updates cascade everywhere the banner is being used after publishing. This ensures consistency, reduces maintenance, and enables schedules to apply uniformly.
To create library banners:
- Go to Blocks → Banner. A default banner is included automatically.
- Duplicate the default to create as many banners as you need (e.g., Evergreen Free Shipping, Spring 25% Off). Rename accordingly for clarity.
- Edit each banner’s image, alt text, and URL in the editor.
When using a library banner in a layout:
- In the Layout Editor, select Add Block → Banner, then choose the banner you want to insert.
Alternative: Layout‑Specific Banners (Local Overrides)
You can also create or adjust a banner directly in a specific layout. This creates a local override for that send only and does not change the library version.
Typical use case: Use a global banner across most sends, but override the link or image for one region or a single campaign.
To create a banner directly in a specific layout:
- Open your email creative.
- Click Add Block → Banner.
- Edit the banner directly on the canvas.
Editing and Customizing a Banner
You can modify the following directly in Studio:
- Image: Upload or select from the asset library.
- Link: Update in the properties panel.
- Alt Text: Update in the properties panel.
If a banner is scheduled, its image, alt text, and URL automatically switch at the configured time.
Stacked Banners in a Single Block
Banner blocks allow duplicating image elements within the same block so you can keep multiple variants together (e.g., evergreen, seasonal, flash sale, weekend‑only).
How to set up:
- Duplicate the image element within the banner block.
- Upload each variant (evergreen, sale, etc.).
You can then schedule each image on or off independently to create stacked banners or time‑based rotations. You can also keep multiple banners live at the same time, such as your evergreen + flash sale for 24 hrs.
Scheduling Banners
Scheduling lets banners (or banner variants) activate or deactivate automatically.
How to schedule:
- Select the banner in a layout or in the Block Library.
- Open Scheduling from either the stoplight options in the block panel or the content box in the settings panel.
- Set a Start Time, End Time, or both, then click Schedule.
Options:
- Start Time only: Activates at a future date/time and remains active.
- End Time only: Deactivates at the specified time (for a banner that’s already in creatives).
- Start + End Time: Activates at the start time and expires at the end time.
Stacked scheduling:
- Add all banner images to your block, then apply schedules to each independently.
What scheduling controls:
- Image + alt text + URL parameters update together as one cohesive banner.
- Mobile override content is respected but always tied to the parent banner’s schedule; all breakpoint images update simultaneously.
What scheduling does not do:
- Device‑level scheduling is not supported; mobile overrides follow the parent banner timing.
Example holiday rotation:
- Evergreen: Schedule end time for Thu Nov 29 11:59 PM.
- Black Friday: Fri Nov 28 12:00 AM – Sun Nov 30 11:59 PM.
- Cyber Monday: Mon Dec 1 12:00 AM – Mon Dec 1 11:59 PM.
- Sale Extended: Tue Dec 2 12:00 AM – Thu Dec 4 11:59 PM.
Canvas View and Previews
The canvas will include all banners
- Banners with the current date/time will be expanded by default.
- Banners with schedules outside the current date/time will be collapsed by default.
Future or expired banners are collapsed automatically, but can easily be expanded.
To test preview a future state:
- Click Preview in the canvas header.
- Select a future date/time and preview channel (view in browser or send test email).
- The creative will reflect the scheduled content for that specified time.
Publishing Updates
Publishing controls when banner changes go live. Studio offers two options.
Option 1 - Update Creative:
- Saves your changes as a draft.
- Layouts receive the change in Studio, but campaigns will not.
Important: If a schedule exists on a campaign‑connected layout, it will trigger at the specified time even if you only update the creative. Remove or hide the scheduled element from the layout’s left sidebar before the schedule window if it should stay in draft mode, and you do not want it to trigger.
Option 2 - Update & Publish:
- Publishes changes everywhere the banner is used immediately; layouts and campaigns update, and any schedules begin executing.
Key notes:
- Non-scheduled edits require Update & Publish to go live; scheduled edits do not.
- To “stage” schedules without allowing them to trigger, avoid adding the scheduled banner to any live layout until approved.
- To prevent a scheduled publish, remove the scheduled banner or scheduled image before its Start/End time.
- All device breakpoint variants follow the parent banner’s schedule and publish timing.
Best Practices
- Modify banner content directly in the Banner block (not via Variables) to keep scheduling cohesive and reduce confusion.
- Use the Block Library as your single source of truth for global block content.
- Use local overrides sparingly for one‑off, campaign-specific adjustments.
- Always preview scheduled states using “Preview in Future Time.”
