Once you have connected your Meta Ad Account, you can begin mapping your segments to create Custom Audiences in Meta. This guide explains how to manage these audiences within the integration platform.
1. Creating New Custom Audiences in Meta (Publishing Segments)
To create a new Custom Audience in Meta, you must publish the segment from the Wunderkind platform.
- Navigate to the Audiences section of your Meta Integration page.
- Review the list of available segments on your platform.
- NOTE: Only Omnichannel segments will appear in this dropdown. Text messaging segments are excluded.
- Select an unpublished segment that you wish to sync.
- Click Save Mapping.
Result: The system immediately creates a new Custom Audience in your selected Meta Ad Account using the data from the chosen segment. (NOTE: the audience list may not be immediately available and can take up to 24 hours to populate)
2. Understanding Meta Audiences
The integration ensures unique and reliable tracking for every audience you publish.
For internal management, the system stores and displays the Segment ID next to the mapped audience. This ID is the primary way the integration tracks and maintains the link to your original segment, ensuring accuracy even if the segment name is changed.
Once a segment is mapped, it cannot be mapped again. The system prevents you from re-selecting an already connected segment to avoid duplication.
3. Who Gets Included (and Why Numbers May Vary)
The user list inside the Custom Audience is directly controlled by the rules of the segment you mapped.
- If you map a segment named "Visitors in the last 7 days" with the following segment conditions, only customers who meet those conditions will be included in the audience:
- Meta Audiences follow the same "contact match" logic used elsewhere in Wunderkind. See here for more details. In other words, Wunderkind currently will only provide emails for known site visitors.
"Why is my audience size smaller in Meta?"
You may notice that the audience size reported in Meta is lower than the number of identified users in your segment. This occurs because the number you see in our platform is based on all identified users (emails or phone numbers), but only a portion of those users have a Meta account tied to that same identifier.
If a user from the Wunderkind audience does not have a Meta account—or uses a different email/phone number for Meta than the one we have on file—Meta cannot "match" them, and they will not be included in the Custom Audience.
4. Audience Update Frequency
Custom Audiences in Meta are updated once a day from Wunderkind (though the Wunderkind segment that generates the Meta audience may update more frequently within the Wunderkind platform).
The Last Updated field on the Audiences tab of the Meta Integration indicates when the Custom Audience was last updated in Meta.
Because Custom Audiences in Meta are updated once a day from Wunderkind, this means that a new Audience typically requires up to 24 hours for the audience list to populate. Custom Audiences do not immediately populate upon creation.
5. Deleting a Published Audience
To stop syncing a Custom Audience, you must delete the mapping from the integration:
- Go to the Audiences section of the Meta Integration.
- Locate the audience you wish to delete from the list of mapped audiences.
- Click the Settings button next to the audience name
- Click the Remove Mapping option from the menu.
Important: Deleting the mapping in the platform will stop the synchronization, but will not automatically delete the Custom Audience itself from your Meta Ad Account. You may need to manually delete the audience within the Meta Ads Manager interface if it is no longer needed.
