Step 1: Download and Configure the Shopify App
Install the App
- Log into your Shopify Store.
- Navigate to the Wunderkind App listing at https://apps.shopify.com/wunderkind. Please note that you must use a direct link; you cannot currently discover the app within the Shopify App Store.
- Install the application.
- Q: Why do I need a link to install the app? Currently in beta, the app is "unlisted," meaning it’s not searchable on the Shopify App Store just yet. The beta program enables us to gather feedback and improve the experience before a public release. Listed or unlisted, both versions meet the same requirements for a great user experience. By joining the trial, you quickly access the Wunderkind services without any risk to your store.
- Please note that the Shopify App is not compatible with headless sites.
Create an account with Wunderkind
-
Currently in beta, the app is completely free to install. If you haven't already set up payments in Shopify, you will still need to enter your credit card information to meet the Shopify billing API requirements. Wunderkind will never charge you without your consent.
Enable the Wunderkind Tag in your Shopify Theme
-
From the homepage of the Wunderkind App, click “Enable Wunderkind Tag”. This will take you into the App Embeds section of your themes to turn on the tag.
-
Press “Save” in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
- You have successfully placed your tag! Please note that if you want to change themes, you will need to re-enable the tag in your new theme. You can do this prior to making the theme switch.
Enable the Wunderkind product feature toggles
- The next step is to enable the appropriate toggles in your Wunderkind App settings. To access these toggles, select “Apps” in the left hand navigation bar, and then select “Wunderkind”. The Wunderkind App homepage will load in Shopify.
- From there, click on the “Settings” option on the left hand side navigation bar under “Wunderkind” (not your Shopify settings).
- “Enable Checkout Experience” and “Enable Onsite Experience” should always be checked. If they are not, please click “Turn On” to enable them.
- “Enable Product Feeds” should be selected if you plan to run Wunderkind Catalog experiences (e.g. back in stock, low in stock, or price drop).
(Optional) Excluding Products from Wunderkind Campaigns
- If you would like to exclude specific collections or products from your Wunderkind sends, follow the directions below. Please note that excluding products may impact performance. We recommend excluding items like gift cards.
- To exclude Collections from Wunderkind Sends, select the collections from the “Settings” page of the Wunderkind App.
-
To exclude individual products from Wunderkind Sends, edit the “Wunderkind Product Attributes” on the individual product page.
- Navigate to the "Products" section within the Shopify store and click into the product that you want to exclude.
- In the top right hand side of the product, click "more actions".
- Click Wunderkind Product Attributes.
- Click "Exclude this product from Wunderkind Marketing"
- Click Save.
Finalize your Smart by Wunderkind app set-up
- Select the "Finish your Wunderkind setup (self-service beta)" button at the top of the page.
- This will direct you to the Smart by Wunderkind onboarding process in the Wunderkind Platform, where you will be able to configure your email integration, set up your creatives, and turn the campaigns live.
Step 2: Set Your Goals, Brand Kit, and Discounts
Create an account
- Sign up to Wunderkind using your business email and accept the Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy.
Select your marketing goals
- Select one or more marketing goals from the available list options. Smart by Wunderkind will recommend email and onsite campaigns based on your selected goals.
Define Promotions
- Choose which promotion(s) to offer to your customers. Smart by Wunderkind will retrieve discount options directly from your Shopify store. You can choose whether to use discounts in emails to Customers, Prospects, both, or neither.
- We recommend - at the very least - utilizing discounts for Prospects (users who have not purchased before) to help incentivize the first conversion and build a relationship with new website users.
Upload Your Brand Kit
- Upload your brand guidelines (e.g. colors, logos, images, fonts, etc.). Smart by Wunderkind will use these elements to build out your recommended experiences.

Editing Your Brand Kit
With Smart by Wunderkind, you also get access to Studio’s Brand Kit. The Brand Kit is the central repository of your brand identity. Think of this as the source of truth that will make sure any assets you create align with your brand's guidelines and preferences. The Brand Kit uses variables so that as your brand evolves and your number of campaigns scale, applying changes “everywhere” is easy.
In the Left Panel click on Studio to open up your Brand Kit. Here, you will see a menu of categories:
- The Assets & Logos page is a repository for all your brand’s imagery, icon, and logos. You can add, delete and rename your assets.
- In the Color & Styles page, you interpret your brand’s colors & components into variables that will later be referenced by blocks & layouts.
- In Typography, you can load your brand’s fonts and define font styles, size, spacing & color across a typographic scale.
You will most likely use Brand Kit to upload new assets, and change your type and color styles as your brand evolves.
