What are the steps to set up Smart by Wunderkind and begin sending emails?
- Install the Wunderkind Shopify account and enable the appropriate settings.
- Answer some questions about your goals in working with Smart by Wunderkind.
- Select discounts from Shopify that are included in your emails (if you choose to use them).
- Define your brand kit, including colors, logos, and fonts.
- Set up your Wunderkind integration with Klaviyo for sending emails and recording email opt-ins.
- Modify the generated performance templates to match your brand styles (if needed).
- Send yourself a test email(s) so that you can see what your customers will receive in their inbox.
- Turn off your existing Klaviyo entrance email captures and/or cart, product, and category abandonment, where applicable.
- Approve your strategies, and launch!
How long does the onboarding process take?
- The set up process should take you less than an hour - we've automated nearly everything! That said, feel free to spend as much time as you need tweaking your creatives.
What email campaigns does Smart by Wunderkind offer?
- Smart by Wunderkind currently offers the following email series: cart abandonment, product abandonment, and category abandonment. We are currently working to expand our selection of email campaigns.
- Cart abandonment is for users who add an item to cart but leave your website without converting. These emails are typically the highest performing sends, because they retarget users already highly considering making a purchase.
- Product abandonment is for users who browse across products on your website but do not add items to their cart nor make a purchase.
- Category abandonment is for users at the top of the funnel, or those who only view categories but do not click into products, add items to cart, or convert.
- We segment the above email series depending on whether the user is a previous customer (in other words, has already made a purchase on your website) or a prospect. If applicable, different user segments can receive different offers or promotions.
- Based on best practices and the audience segment, Wunderkind sends email series that vary in length between 3 or 4 email parts. The duration and cadence of our email series ensure that we effectively communicate your brand's message without overloading your customers' inboxes.
What onsite campaigns does Smart by Wunderkind offer?
Smart by Wunderkind currently offers a high performing, non-intrusive entrance email capture experience on your website to help grow your list of opted-in emails. Our technology is able to suppress the entrance overlay for users who we identify as already opted-in to your email program, creating a seamless and non-disruptive user experience. We are currently working to expand our selection of onsite campaigns for Smart brands.
Do I need to use a discount code?
- Discount codes are a key driver of email performance, especially for prospects who have never purchased from your brand before. However, the decision to use or not use discounts is ultimately up to you.
Why do I need to set up Klaviyo as instructed in the Onboarding Guide?
- Wunderkind handles all aspects of the abandonment email journey, from identity, to eligibility and segmentation, to the email content in order to ensure each customer gets the right message at the right time.
- To deliver the best performance to your brand and the best experience to your customers, we send our emails as fully composed and rendered HTML emails through your Klaviyo account.
How do I make changes to my email performance templates?

What is the Wunderkind technology doing in the background with my set up process?
- Wunderkind automates the set up, creation, orchestration, and management of your email campaign series within our Platform. We pull in previous customers from Shopify and your email list from Klaviyo in order to power our identity and segmentation engines.
- This automated process ensures that users who have purchased from your website are treated as customers, that users who have already opted in or out of your email program are not repeatedly shown email capture sign-up units, and that Wunderkind delivers an optimal experience for your website traffic.
Can I maintain my Klaviyo email capture sign-up units (aka, pop-ups) but still leverage Wunderkind email flows?
- Absolutely! We recognize that you may have spent a lot of time and resources optimizing your existing email capture experience to match your brand or layered in additional data points for collection.
- That said, by not leveraging Wunderkind's entrance email capture functionality, you lose the opportunity to tap into Wunderkind's ability to suppress email captures for users who have already opted in/out of your email program. On average, we see a noticeable lift in performance for brands who choose to leverage the Wunderkind entrance email capture functionality.
How long will it take to start seeing the Smart by Wunderkind performance take off?
- Wunderkind begins sending emails on your brand's behalf immediately after you set the experiences live. However, it will likely take 7-14 days to scale up as we collect more data from our Shopify app regarding user interactions with your product pages.
