Use Promo Banners To Embed Messaging In Layouts At Scale

Promo Banners allow you to embed image-based assets across a suite of emails at any point in time. This feature is great to enhance a limited time offer or add holiday specific messaging to your live emails at scale. These can also be scheduled within a specific time frame to adapt to seasonal changes or remove entirely after the limited time of a promotion.

In the anatomy of an email, there are three strategic placements where we recommend to embedded promo banners:

1. Directly above or below Header
2. Between the Hero and Product Grid
3. Below the Product Grid.

For promo banners placed above the Product Grid (1 & 2), you want a design that is short in height, simple and transactional. Be conscious that any messaging here does not distract your customers from engaging with the dynamic items in the product grid.

Below the Product Grid (3), you can have a bit more fun with your promo banner designs without impacting performance.

Promo Banners In Layouts

Every new layout in Studio will populate the three Promo Banner Blocks as a default. If you can't see them in your layout, check your Left Panel as they may have been hidden.

To add a promo banner in this below product grid placement:

1. Start by uploading the image asset you want to use for your promo banner
   • Go to Brand Kit > Assets & Logos to upload the asset that you want to use.
   • Find your uploaded asset in the list
   • Right Click > Copy Image Address
2. Promo banners are variables, so you're going to set these up in Smart Fields
   • Go to Brand Kit > Smart Fields
   • Scroll down to Promo Banner Variable section
   • You'll see that there's three sets of image and URL promo banner names for each of the promo banner placements: TopBanner, BelowHeroBanner, and BelowProdGridBanner.
   • To edit the BelowProdGridBanner:
     • Go to $BelowProdGridBannerImg
     • Click on the [...] menu to the right and select Edit
     • In the Edit Promo Banner Variable modal, paste the image URL into the Value
     • Click OK, and then Save
   • To make your promo banner clickable, you want to make sure that there's a link attached to the image that you just edited.
     • Go to $BelowProdGridBannerUrl
     • Click on the [...] menu to the right and select Edit
     • In the Edit Promo Banner Variable modal, add the clickthrough link into the Value
     • Click OK, and then Save.
3. To see the context where your Promo Banners are being used
   • Scroll back down to the Promo Banner Variables section
   • Click on the [...] menu > View Current Usage
   • You will se a modal displaying the list of Blocks and Layouts that are currently using this Promo Banner. Clicking on any link open the Layout in a new tab. Here, you'll be able to view the rendered image in your Promo Banner block.

This promo banner will now appear across all your layouts that are using that block in the future. If you want to change the style of that promo banner, simply repeat the steps again, upload a new image, copy the image address and go back to smart fields and replace this value within that promo banner.
